TOGETHER | New Friends in Cuba

The first step toward understanding Cuba is accepting that you’ll never really understand Cuba. And after having spent a week in the country, I think it’s safe to say that the twelve of us who traveled there together have even less clarity about the “whys” and “hows” of the island than before we departed.

But if there is one thing that you can hang your sombrero on, it’s the Cuban people: their love for life and one another, a camaraderie in the face of hardships, and an attitude of ”resolviendo.” As we settle back into our lives again here in Columbia, I’d ask three things of you:

  1. Allow us a moment to share with you a quick story or two about some of the amazing people and churches we encountered,

  2. Help us to see opportunities here at home in which we may serve our own neighbors in need, as our new friends in Cuba modeled for us so well, and

  3. Excuse us if we seem a little slow to respond to your social media posts or messages; know that we are likely trying to be a bit more intentional with the people standing before us.

Cuba has a lot of needs, it’s true. But we also have much to learn from Cuba. I hope you’ll join us as DOWNTOWN CHURCH works to develop a partnership with our new friends in Cuba. #Entonces...
