REMEMBER | All Saints' Day
Early Christians remembered martyrs on the anniversary of their death, celebrating that day as their birth into eternal life.
But, it didn’t take long for the calendar to become booked solid with saints’ days. To simplify things, All Saints’ Day was established to honor all the saints, both known and unknown, on one glorious day of the year.
As time passed, the emphasis of All Saints’ Day expanded so that now we celebrate the ordinary, holy lives of believers in this and every age.
It's a time to give thanks to God for members of our communities and families who have died, trusting in the hope of resurrection.
This year on Sunday, November 1, we invite you to remember your loved ones who have died.
Bring a framed or unframed photo, an obituary or funeral program, and add their image to the table under the smoke stacks before service. You can also remember your loved one by writing down their name and a favorite memory or story on a colorful sheet of paper and hanging it on the wire above the table.
During Holy interruption or after worship, we encourage you to spend time at the communion table with our “saints.”
If you bring a photo or memory to share, please take it with you after the service.
