This Sunday we continue our examination of the beatitudes from Matthew 5. The beatitude (or blessing) we will deconstruct on Sunday is ‘Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled’. Another word for righteousness is justice. Sunday’s blessing is connected to the blessing immediately afterwards in verse six 'Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.’ In preparation for the sermons the next two Sundays I was struck by a question that doesn’t have a simple answer but does illicit strong viewpoints.
