WORSHIP | Maundy Thursday

What is Maundy Thursday?
It has to do with Holy Communion. Before you eat the bread and drink from the cup, we recall that Jesus shared the same meal with his closest companions the day before he was arrested, two days before he died on a cross. Don’t worry, we’ll have grape juice and gluten free options to share in the meal, too.

How will we celebrate?
When you arrive, there will be live music (like Lent on the Lawn) on our back lawn, beverages for all ages and some snacks. You can enjoy time with the community. Then, in groupings of twelve people (like the disciples did), you’ll gather around the communion table to experience the meal.

What about baptism?
Great question. We have two sacraments in the church: communion and baptism. On Maundy Thursday we celebrate holy communion and throughout the year we celebrate individual baptisms. Typically the flow is to be baptized first, and then celebrate communion throughout your lifetime. The reason for this is that baptism marks our reception of God's promises to us. Then, communion celebrates the sustaining gift of that promise to us. If you haven't been baptized and want to, please reach out to chelsey@downtownchurch.meWe'd love to explore it more with you. We won't turn anyone away from Christ's table.

Drop in to experience Maundy Thursday with us on April 2nd between 5:00-7:00pm
