HELLO | Meet Rachel Smith Fitch
We are delighted to welcome Rachel Smith Fitch as our new Director of Downtown kids!
Rachel is a preacher’s kid, who grew up at Spring Valley and Eastminster Presbyterian churches and then attended the USC Honors College and later Duke Divinity School. While in seminary she lived in an intentional Christian community of people living with and without disabilities, where she met her neighbor/seminary classmate (now husband) Stephen. After three years of ministry in and near Greensboro, NC, they are excited to be closer to family. Rachel appreciates the creativity and contextualization DTC brings to being a church and is excited to learn and walk alongside you as we seek to share Christ’s love with all. Rachel and Stephen have one son, Isaac (age 2.5), and are expecting their second child in mid-October.
How would you describe God’s love in 3 words?
Abundant, mercy-filled, & everlasting
What song would you choose to sing for karaoke?
A short one! We do sing a lot of ‘If you’re happy and you know it…,” and “Jesus Loves Me” around our house right now.
What is your favorite month of the year and why?
Let’s say the end of May into June – daylight hours are getting longer, the pace has slowed a bit, strawberries and other summer fruits and vegetables are starting to be in season, and it is not too hot yet!
What makes you excited to work with the kids at downtown church?
The energy, creativity, and care exhibited by the congregation as a whole is a gift. It has been fun to see how this is lived out in children’s ministry, and I am excited to continue to see how God is at work in the lives of our youngest disciples!
