GIVE | 2020 Giving

If you missed the ONE Sunday we talk about money, you can listen to the full experience here or just watch the sermon here.

We like transparency so we are sharing our current offering and our current expenses for the first 9 months of the year.

As you may know, we never intended to be a church that owned property. But when we were gifted a building (that needed major renovations), we made the commitment as a community to take a carefully crafted leap of faith. The plan: rent our space during the week so that it pays for itself.

To our delight, this model worked successfully in 2019, but 2020 shows a different story. As you see on our budget for the first nine months of 2020, our building expenses are near $100,000. This is the amount we would earn from the building’s events in a non-COVID year.

What’s represented in the in the numbers you see here? Our total giving for the first nine months of 2020 is $689,996 and our total expenses for those same nine months are $767,875. Even if numbers aren’t your thing, you can see that we need to cover some ground between now and the end of the year.

Before asking for your help, directly, it feels important to acknowledge some things we (our staff) are grateful for:

  • Tyler Hudson and Susanna Young who hustled to get our request for PPP funds approved without a glitch.

  • Our scrappy staff. Almost everyone’s position has grown dramatically since integrating digital worship into our bag of tricks.

  • A community that continues to show up - even in the drizzling rain - to find God on the back lawn of our beautiful building.

Our ask: Would you check the pockets of your winter coats for $20 bills you thought were long gone, triple check your Christmas budget to see if DOWNTOWN CHURCH made the nice list, and keep us in mind as you make your end of year gifts?
