2013 Lent Book of the Year

simply-jesus-thumb One of the more fruitful things we've done at Downtown Church is launch groups. In the fall of 2012 we started eight Downtown Groups with varied formats and similar principles. Downtowners responded and now all eight groups are thriving. The demand for groups hasn't let down since then and a waiting list is now long enough to support two more groups.

We also learned that not everyone can commit to a group that meets consistently. However, this doesn't mean they don't want to grow in their commitment to following Jesus. Knowing this, we're going to experiment with an online group through the 40 days of Lent.

Unlike our Downtown Groups, the online group will not be limited in size and it will never meet in person. The focus of the moderated discussions will be our Lent Book of the Year by N.T. Wright titled Simply Jesus. When Lent concludes, the group will end and we will evaluate the format to see if it's worth sustaining.

If you just want to read the book and not be bothered with a group, please do.

I'm continually surprised by the depth of the questions I receive in response to the conversations we get to share through the sermon on Sundays. Now, there's a place (for the next 40 days) to practice the art of faithful inquiry in a way that invites more questions and transforms the one way conversations on Sundays into a communal event.

If you want to join the group, request an invite using the form below. Books will be on sale in worship on Sunday February 10 and February 17 for $15. Or get the book on Amazon right here and iBooks here.
