FRONT PORCH

Looking ahead for Downtown Church.

At ten years old, kids out grow their shoes. That is true for our church as well. In the last ten years, we have grown from a few families to over 600 members. In the last five years, we have focused on growing our resources to match our growing needs, which has included our property.

Looking ahead, we have a vision for what we hope to look like ten years from now with a series of projects to get us there.

The Front Porch is one of those steps. While we have a great start in raising money for the building, we want to delay breaking ground until we have the funds to pay cash. We will continue to move forward while making sure we are good stewards with the funds raised.

WHERE WE ARE NOW

  • We’ve received $1,090,191 in pledges for the front porch.

  • We formed a working group to make sure we are covering all the bases. They have been meeting with the architect and contractors to finalize the design for the front porch building.

Where are we in the process?
Between the time when we fundraised and received bids, the economy changed and the building is estimated to cost 2x what we originally thought. We know you are bummed, because we are too, but the session is committed to keep moving forward in supporting the growth of Downtown Church. The Front Porch is happening, but on a slower timeline. We are continuing to fundraise as our goal is to pay for this project in cash. We still have a 2.1 million dollar loan on our current building that we are paying down.

Where are the funds that have been collected for this project?
Session has placed the funds we’ve raised for this project in an interest bearing money market account.

What has to happen before we can break ground?
We’ve raised enough money to pay for the project in cash.

What about trees and parking?
Absolutely, there will be trees, a large porch, outdoor space, and additional parking.

Why are we building another building?
We need to complete the storage plans that were part of the original building.
We are growing! We need more space for kids, youth, faith formation, and mission.

Listen here to Dawn share our philosophy on ministry and physical space.
